Halton Region subsidizes flood-protection work on homes connected to its wastewater system. For work completed after July 15, 2024, disconnection work is covered at 100% up to a set limit, and a backwater valve or lateral repair is covered at 50%. There is no single combined maximum. Each item has its own cap, and each subsidy is once per property.
Covers Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills.
Each item has its own cap
These amounts do not add up to one program maximum. A home can qualify for more than one, if the work and the paperwork match that item.

- Exterior storm drain$6,500
- Downspout disconnection$900
- Backwater valve50% up to $1,600
- Wastewater lateral repair50% up to $4,000

| Exterior storm drain | Up to the maximum | $6,500 |
| Downspout disconnection | Up to the maximum | $900 |

Who can apply
- The home is in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, or Halton Hills and is connected to Halton's municipal wastewater system. A septic home is not eligible.
- Apply within one year of finishing the work.
- A Household Drainage Survey, or a licensed plumber's assessment, confirms the connection the subsidy is for.
- Where the local town requires a permit, that permit has passed final inspection.
- Each of these subsidies is available once per property, even if the owner changes.
In Burlington, the City also does not charge the building permit fee for a backwater valve, for a sump pump installed with a backwater valve, or for a sanitary line repair. That is a fee waiver, not an extra cash rebate.
How we handle the paperwork
- 1
We confirm the connection
Halton wants proof the weeping tile, drain, or downspout was actually tied to the wastewater system. A plumber's assessment can be included in the eligible costs, inside the existing cap.
- 2
The local permit, where one is required
Oakville, Burlington, Milton, or Halton Hills inspects the work. We leave it open until that inspection passes.
- 3
Application and waiver
You send the signed forms, a paid itemized invoice, and the before-and-after photos or camera footage to basementfloodingsubsidy@halton.ca. Halton mails a cheque 4 to 6 weeks after a complete application.
Questions about this program
Yes. The subsidy is Halton Region's. Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills share these caps. The building permit still comes from the local municipality.
Halton pays 50% of a backwater valve up to $1,600, and 50% of a lateral repair up to $4,000. Weeping tile, storm-drain, and downspout disconnection are the items it pays at 100%, up to their own caps.
The older caps apply: $5,000 for weeping tile and a sump pump, $500 for downspouts, $675 for a backwater valve, and $2,000 for a lateral repair. The current caps are for work completed after that date.
Amounts were checked against the Halton Region Basement Flooding Prevention Subsidy Program on October 5, 2026. Each amount is on that item's own Halton page. Work completed after July 15, 2024 uses the caps above. Burlington permit fee grant.
