Markham's Private Plumbing Protection Rebate Program pays a maximum rebate for flood-protection work, but only after the City approves the address. The property has to be in a known flood-prone area, or you have to show a flood risk. The building permit deadline is April 30, 2027, and the rebate application deadline is July 31, 2027. Markham publishes maximums, not a percentage of the invoice.
Covers Markham.

How we handle the paperwork
- 1
Technical review first
You and the contractor confirm the work, then the technical review form goes to plumbingrebate@markham.ca before anyone starts.
- 2
Camera inspection, then the permit
After the first approval, a licensed plumber cameras the laterals. The City then says whether to proceed. The building permit uses that approval.
- 3
Install, inspect, then the rebate form
We do the work and the Building Department inspects it. The rebate application, with invoices, goes to Environmental Services. The City issues the cheque.
Questions about this program
No. The City limits the rebate to known flood-prone areas, or to a property that can show a flood risk. It also has to approve the work before installation. We check that before we quote the rebate.
Markham publishes a maximum rebate for each item. It does not publish a percentage. The receipt treats that maximum as the most the City pays. If the invoice is lower, the planning figure uses the invoice.
Not for a new installation. The technical review has to be approved before the permit and the work. Retroactive rebates are only for work done between May 1, 2017 and May 1, 2018.
Amounts were checked against the City of Markham Private Plumbing Protection Rebate Program on October 5, 2026. The rebate table is on that page. By-law 2020-45 has the program rules. By-law 2020-45 (PDF).
